This smart house—constructed mainly from wood grown in Toyota City and making optimal use of the blessings bestowed by nature (the warmth of wood, sunlight, etc.)—proposes a lifestyle in which residents live an active and enriched life in the local community.
Explanation of Terminology
Smart House
Refers to a house that is capable of optimizing the utilization of energy in the home by using information technology to control the equipment used to generate energy (solar power, etc.), the equipment used to save energy (storage batteries, etc.) and energy-saving devices (energy-efficient consumer electronics, etc.).
HEMS
Stands for a Home Energy Management System. This system allows the user to monitor energy usage in the home and carry out the optimization of energy utilization, by integrating various types of equipment installed in the home to generate energy (solar power generation, etc.), accumulate energy (storage batteries, etc.) and save energy (energy-saving home electronics) into an information network.
